One of the reasons I hesitated to start my copywriting business was sales.
Now, I loved marketing and still do.
It’s the perfect combination of strategy and creativity and I’m obsessed.
But – getting on sales calls to pitch my services as a copywriter or writing about how people could work with me on social media used to really freak me out.
What if they said no?
What if they asked for a big discount?
What if I don’t get other leads?
And I finally realized why.
I was afraid of making leads and potential clients feel uncomfortable and didn’t know if I could justify my prices (even when they were half of what I charge now!)
Plus, I had been on the other end of some uncomfortable sales calls where I felt unworthy or pressured into purchasing decisions that really didn’t sit right.
And I grew distant from those brands and creators because even though I appreciate great sales and marketing, condescension and fake scarcity aren’t really my jam.
But there’s light at the end of the tunnel 💡
After taking my business full-time in February and almost doubling my monthly salary from my previous job since then – I’ve found some sales strategies that that work for me, without making me or my leads cringe.
And I’m here to share those with you today 🔥
➡️ Get dream clients excited about your offer, instead of relying on pressure or force to make a sale.
When you truly believe that your offer can deliver results and change your client’s life, it should be easy to get people excited about investing with you, instead of scared or anxious about what you’ll think if you say no.
Hype up what’s waiting for them on the other side and encourage them to do right by them, but maybe ditch the “if you don’t do it, you won’t succeed” angle because it’s 1. not really true and 2. it’s pretty rude.
➡️ Storytelling is your friend! People relate to people.
You need to talk about more than just what you sell.
You need to talk about why you’re selling it and what got you to where you are.
When you share your journey, your likes and dislikes, and open up to your audience – it’s a game changer because when someone feels like they know you, they feel like they can trust you, and that makes investing in what you have to offer all the more interesting.
➡️ Brag about the transformation more than just the features.
Your offer comes with all of the top-notch features – I get it and I’m proud of you.
But, you’ve got to ask yourself: “Why should they care?”
Instead of just listing out how many modules your course comes with or how many coaching sessions are in your package – explain why that will maximize your client’s results.
Will the 10 modules give them everything they need to start their health coaching business?
Will the weekly coaching sessions keep them motivated or address their questions?
The what is important but the WHY is crucial.
